Why Brock Lesnar’s WWE contract issues doesn’t guarantee him joining AEW or UFC

Brock Lesnar has seen his WWE contract run out but that doesn’t mean he is set to join AEW, UFC or any other promotion

WWE might have missed a boat as their contract with Brock Lesnar ended and he became a free agent.

The Beast is one of the biggest names in sports entertainment, and reports suggest that WWE were unable to cement on an extension with him.

The former champion hasn’t been seen much since WrestleMania and his merchandise was also taken off WWE stores.

Lesnar might be 43, but there are several suitors for him. Bellator, an MMA promotion, has also stated their interest in landing him.

Jon Jones, the greatest Light Heavyweight in UFC history, also spoke about beating Lesnar up. The UFC doesn’t have too many big named Heavyweights in their division currently and Lesnar is a former champion.

Bones had moved up the division and this could be a calling card for The Beast. Jones hadn’t spoken of Lesnar ever since he moved up and the timing was a little suspect for him to do the talking now.

There have also been some corners asking for Lesnar to join AEW. However, it is unlikely such a move might happen.

Lesnar to re-sign with WWE?

While the Beast is a huge name and would help any promotion, be it Bellator, UFC, AEW or even Impact Wrestling.

It is highly unlikely such a move will ever take place. Lesnar and WWE might have had some problems cracking a deal and that could harp on how much the Beast makes.

Reports claimed that he was earning more than $10million in 2020, and that was his current deal too, so any promotion trying to deal with him has to ensure he earns a similar amount if not more.

AEW is still a new promotion and lumping such a sum on just one star would be a folly, especially in these Covid times.

The UFC and Bellator could make some additional revenue via PPV sales but gate receipts are still down, so signing Lesnar for $10m+ would be a slap in the face of the other stars.

Jones and Jorge Masvidal have called out the UFC for not paying their stars well, and getting Lesnar on a huge deal would be a huge mistake financially.

Age is another factor in all this. Going into any MMA promotion is risky and Lesnar is on the wrong side of 40. He would get destroyed by some of the more technical heavyweights but there is no doubt he can put up a fight.

Would Lesnar be willing to risk serious injury? That is something that time will tell. However, it would make sense for him to stick with WWE as there is a rivalry there that he can now start and he doesn’t have to start afresh anywhere else.

The new Paul Heyman Guy

Roman Reigns became the latest Paul Heyman Guy, and that was a shock for all. Reigns has turned heel since his WWE return and Lesnar vs the Big Dog would be a blockbuster match.

Heyman was the manager of Lesnar and this rivalry could be a cracker for WWE. The Beast has taken a break from WWE in the past and this could be a similar step too.

However, WWE is the right destination for Lesnar and the right fit for him at this stage of his career. Money might be one issue in all this but WWE seems to be the only promotion that can pay him well and treat him as the top star too.
