Why Celtic should make a move for Shon Weissman soon

According to Daily Record, Celtic are interested in signing Wolfsberger AC star Shon Weissman in the summer as a potential replacement for Odsonne Edouard, who has been the subject of transfer in the upcoming window.

Weissman, 24, started out with the academy of Hapoel Haifa before joining Maccabi Haifa. Having progressed through the youth ranks, he made 38 first-team appearances, bagging 9 goals and 4 assists. Despite not being at his best in the last few years, he has taken the Austrian Bundesliga by storm this season.

During his time at the club, Weissman spent most of the time on loan with clubs like Hapoel Acre, Maccabi Netanya and Kiryat Shmona before making the jump to Austria with Wolfsberger last summer. Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the bests strikers in the Bundesliga. Thus, Celtic should make a prompt attempt to secure his services this summer.

Weissman can be a leader in Celtic’s attack

The Hoops, meanwhile, won the Premiership title for the 9th time in a row and have dominated the Scottish League in the past decade. And before them, lies the 10th title in as many years. However, they need to strengthen the squad if they are to continue with their domination.

However, they are facing a risk of losing their best player in Odsonne Edouard, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League. The French forward led them brilliantly to the title with 21 goals and 12 assists in 27 league games.

His departure would leave Celtic with limited quality up front. Leigh Griffith has done a decent job with 9 goals and 4 assists in the league but he has not been a regular starter. Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Issouf Bayo haven’t been effective in the squad so far. Thus, a prolific goalscorer is a must in the summer if they are to avoid any limitations up front.

Having said that, Weissman would be a suitable option for the club. The Israeli has contributed with 37 goals and 8 assists in 40 games across all competitions this season. And he could be a crucial player for Lennon’s squad if he is able to replicate the same form.

His inclusion would definitely add depth to the squad even if Edouard stays and the competition between them could be good for the club. Weissman has immense qualities and the Hoops must secure his services soon of they are to progress in further campaigns.

Verdict

With Edouard’s future uncertain at the club and the ineffectiveness of the other strikers, the Hoops are in need of centre-forwards. And Weissman could provide them with enough goals if he continues with the same form. Thus, they should manage to sign the Israeli international this summer.
