Why Celtic should revive their interest in Louis Appere

Back in December, TEAMtalk (h/t Pink Un) claimed that Celtic were in the chase to sign Dundee United forward Louis Appere but a deal didn’t materialize as the youngster had renewed his contract at Tannadice Park a few months prior.

Appere, 20, came through the ranks of AM Soccer Club and Dundee United’s youth ranks. Last August, he was promoted to the club’s senior team after an impressive season with the reserves side. He has made 26 appearances for his side this season in the Premiership and has been one of the best young players in the league.

With 4 goals and 5 assists in 26 games, Appere is fourth on the list of top scorers for Dundee United and second in providing assists. He has been impressive throughout the campaign and therefore, Celtic should revive their interest in the youngster.

Neil Lennon’s men have been dominant in the past few years and they are on course to lift the Premiership once again. They’re currently on top of the table, having a lead of 13 points on rivals Rangers. However, the loss to Copenhagen in the Europa League has halted their progress further in the competition.

Despite scoring regularly in the league, they failed to score enough in the Europa League. Star striker Odsonne Edouard has been brilliant for the team with 21 goals to his name and Leigh Griffith has also supported well with 9 goals. Also, Patryk Klimala was signed in January to boost their attacking options.

But the Bhoys have limited options on the wings in the likes of Marvin Shved, Daniel Arzani, Mikey Johnston and Mohamed Elyounoussi. In that, Arzani and Elyounoussi are on loan and could move to their respective clubs in the summer, leaving just two youngsters on the wings for Celtic. Therefore, the manager should strengthen the wide areas and must look to sign Louis Appere in the summer.

The 20-year-old is in fine form for his side, helping them to 3rd position in the league as he has formed a partnership with leading scorer Lawrence Shankland up front.

Predominantly a centre-forward, the Scottish youngster is capable of playing anywhere across the frontline. He has mostly featured as a right-winger under Robbie Neilson and could be valuable for the Old firm club, who have limited wingers in their ranks.

Appere has improved himself after his loan spell with Broughty AFC and is one of the most promising young talents. He is capable of going far in his career, given he keeps improving his good form and with Celtic, he can take his game to the next level.

Verdict

The Hoops are in dire need of wingers as they have limited options in that position. And Appere, who is just 20, can be seen as an investment for the future.

Therefore, the Scottish giants should reignite their interest in the Perth-born talent and manage to lure him to Celtic Park.
