Why Cengiz Under to Tottenham would be a brilliant move
According to Daily Mail, Roma star Cengiz Under is a transfer target for Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho. Turkish Newspaper Gunes (h/t Daily Mail) claims that the club would be able to sign Under only if they book a spot in the Champions League.
Under, 22, rose to prominence in the 2016/17 season with Istanbul Basaksehir, netting 9 goals across all competitions. As a result, he earned a move to the Serie A with AS Roma in the summer of 2017.
He hasn’t looked back since and has already scored 16 goals in 82 appearances for the Italian outfit while providing 11 assists. The player has also scored 6 goals in 20 senior international appearances for Turkey.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have managed to climb up the table after a rough start to the season under sacked manager Mauricio Pochettino.
They have faced several limitations since the injury to Harry Kane. His injury on New Year’s Day has left the side looking dull, even after signing Steven Bergwijn. Although he’s a natural winger, Heung-Min Son has been leading the attack and was on target from the spot in the 3-2 win against Southampton in the FA Cup.
This is far from a viable solution, however, and their interest in Cengiz Under is logical. Despite struggling with an arm injury earlier in the season, he has featured in 17 games for the club, scoring two goals.
Predominantly a left-footed right-winger, Under is capable of playing on the opposite side or as an attacking midfielder if required.
According to Whoscored, the Turkish international has registered an average of 1.4 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in Serie A this season.
Though Tottenham have Son and Lucas Moura as the wide men, Mourinho should add more depth to his attacking options. And Under would be the right choice for the North Londoners.
