Why Chelsea are right to let go of Andreas Christensen
According to Daily Express, Andreas Christensen could be one of the names who could be heading towards the exit door at Chelsea. The Blues are keen to offload some players after a summer of huge spending and bringing in a lot of players.
Profile
Andreas Christensen started out at Brondby in 2004 and spent about 7 years in their youth side before being promoted to the U-17s. Within one season though, he was snapped up by Chelsea and drafted into their U-18 team.
He predominantly featured for the U-23s before being loaned out to Borussia Monchengladbach. It was in Germany that he started to make a name for himself and caught the attention of Chelsea. On his return, he was given a shot at the first-team. While he impressed in his first season, his performances dipped thereafter.
So far, he has managed to play 106 games for the Blues. Currently, he finds himself on the fringes due to the form of Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma. The Dane is an experienced member of the national side with 37 caps to his name to date.
Chelsea have enough central defenders and should let go of Christensen
During the summer, Chelsea managed to get hold of Thiago Silva on a free transfer after his contract with PSG expired. With some experimentation in the early stages of the season, the pairing of Kurt Zouma and Silva seemed to work the best. Since then, these two have started regularly and Antonio Rudiger and Christensen were given a chance only in the Champions League.
While it’s all good that Chelsea have found their best defensive pairing, it leaves someone like Christensen in limbo. He is just 24 and these are still his growing years as a defender. Sitting on the bench and playing the occasional game is rather detrimental to his career. Yes, he may not be a world-class defender but he is a decent one with potential.

It is very unlikely that his situation will change at Stamford Bridge given the club’s transfer dealings currently. Chelsea should consider the player’s future and let him leave the club. It would get them some cash to balance the books as well as give the player a chance to start fresh at another club.
