Why Chelsea must revive their interest in Boubacar Kamara
According to La Provence (h/t Daily Express), Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of former target Boubacar Kamara of Marseille.
The implications of the pandemic coronavirus has affected many European clubs including Marseille, who are now forced to sell their star players in order to ease the financial burden on them.
The report suggests that 20-year-old Kamara could be one such player who Marseille could be forced to sell this summer. The report also adds that a sum of around £35.9million could be enough to prise the Frenchman away from the State Velodrome.
Young defender Kamara had impressed for Marseille this season with 10 clean sheets from 28 appearances across all competitions before coronavirus stopped the play.
The Marseille academy graduate has featured 79 times for the Ligue 1 outfit so far and has three goals and as many assists to his name. Centre-back Kamara, who had a breakthrough season last year, making 31 appearances for Marseille, had attracted the attention of Chelsea back in April.
With the French side forced to offload one of their prized assets due to financial strain, Chelsea have an opportunity to make the best out of this situation to land their former target.
Kamara can strengthen the defence at Chelsea
Chelsea had earlier identified the promising French talent as a potential signing to partner main man Antonio Rudiger at the heart of their defence. Moreover, Kamara also fits the mould of young and exciting talents around which manager Frank Lampard has built his Chelsea team this season.
However, he is yet to find a consistent partner for Rudiger in the defence with Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen failing to impress this season. Academy graduate Fikayo Tomori has impressed with 15 league appearances to his credit, but the young defender needs to improve a lot more to establish himself as a regular.
Considering all this, Chelsea must once again revive their interest in Kamara and sign him up this summer. His versatility to play as a defensive midfielder also holds him in good stead for any club, not just Chelsea. In fact, this season, Kamara has played 11 times in the midfield.

Verdict
Despite having enough defenders in their side, Chelsea have failed to establish a consistent centre-back to partner Rudiger and who better than Kamara. The young Frenchman has proved himself playing at the highest level for Marseille and can bolster their backline next season. His defensive versatility will also be an added benefit for Lampard’s Blues.
