Why Chelsea should act on their interest in Sebastian Walukiewicz
According to Mirror, Chelsea could face some competition for their defensive target Sebastian Walukiewicz. The Cagliari man has attracted the attention of top clubs with his performances this season. Along with Chelsea, Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool are said to be in the race to sign him.
Profile
Sebastian Walukiewicz is a 20-year-old Polish centre-back who plays for Serie A side Cagliari. He started his youth career at MKP Gorzow Wielkopolski before moving to Legia Warsaw’s youth setup. Spending the next couple of years in the youth sides, he was sold to Pogon Szczecin while he was in the Legia B side.
In 32 appearances for their senior side, he scored and assisted a goal. He mostly played for their youth side during that time. Cagliari signed him in 2019 but was sent back on loan to Pogon for the remainder of the season.
So far, he has made 26 appearances at Cagliari, assisting once (source – Transfermarkt). Walukiewicz has been a regular part of the Poland youth sides and was recently called up to the senior side. To date, he has three caps for the national team.
Walukiewicz can be a good investment for the future
Over the last few games, Chelsea have looked really solid in defence. They have lost just one game in the league and sit pretty at 3rd place. The newfound defensive nous has been due to the brilliance of Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva. On the occasion of Silva being rested, the likes of Christensen and Rudiger have chipped in.
However, there are two good reasons as to why Chelsea should pursue Walukiewicz. Firstly, Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori could depart the club soon, which would leave them a little thin in central defense.
Another is that Thiago Silva isn’t getting any younger. While he is still a decent player, eventually time will catch up with him. At this point, Chelsea could really use a young and capable defender alongside Zouma.

Walukiewicz fits the bill. He is a good young player with a lot of potential. Chelsea would be wise to make a move for the defender soon as the report suggests that rivals Manchester United and other elite European clubs are after him.
Walukiewicz will be a necessity at some point and would solve one of Chelsea’s glaring issues. He could dovetail well with Zouma and give Chelsea some organization at the back for the future.
