Why Chelsea should not sell Jorginho amidst interest
According to Daily Mail, Chelsea midfielder Jorginho’s agent has claimed that several clubs will make bids for the Italian in the summer, which puts his future at Stamford Bridge in doubt.
The report also adds that Jorginho has been strongly linked with a move to Juventus, where he could reunite with his former boss Maurizio Sarri. The midfielder worked with Sarri for three years at Napoli and then Chelsea – before the manager was sacked.
Jorginho, 28, who came through the youth ranks of Hellas Verona, switched to Napoli in the summer of 2014. He helped the Serie A side lift the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup and has made 160 appearances for the Naples outfit.
He joined Chelsea in the summer of 2018 and won the Europa League last season. He played a massive role in their success and also helped the side to a third-placed finish.
This season, he has been a regular under Frank Lampard. He is one of the senior members of the team at the moment and has also led the side on several occasions.
Meanwhile, the Blues started the season on a high note but are at risk of losing the Champions League spot. The youngsters in the squad have done well but they haven’t been up to the mark over the last few months. They also failed to bring in reinforcements in January.
However, Chelsea have a group of brilliant midfielders in their ranks and Jorginho has been the focal point in the middle of the park, forming a strong partnership with Mateo Kovacic.
Former Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante seems to be out of form this season and therefore, Chelsea should not sell Jorginho since he has been consistent.
The 28-year-old’s ability to play anywhere in the midfield comes handy in numerous situations. If he leaves, the club would need to find a replacement and that won’t be easy.
Verdict
Jorginho has been the driving force and has contributed a lot to the team. And he is the fifth top scorer in the club this term, despite being a defensive midfielder.
Therefore, Chelsea should stop Jorginho from moving out of Stamford Bridge and try to get the best out of him at least until his contract expires in the summer of 2023.
