According to Mirror, Chelsea are all ready to pip Tottenham in the chase for highly-rated defender Kim Min-Jae. The South Korean is said to have captured the attention of the Blues despite Spurs retaining an interest in the player for a while now. Chelsea could end up hijacking the deal interest in Min-Jae who has been nicknamed ‘The Monster’ due to his impressive 6ft 3in frame.
For quite a while during this season, Chelsea looked like they were genuine title challengers. Their attack was functioning well and the defence looked solid as ever. Yet as one looks at some of their results, and the scenario has changed.
One of their problems has been the defence, which previously looked solid but is now leaking goals. The duo of Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva is a good one but it’s clear that they need something more than that.
The likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen haven’t exactly been featuring much either. That makes the acquisition of a young and promising defender a priority.
The 6ft 3in South Korean has already outgrown his humble surroundings in the Far East. It would be fair to say that the 24-year-old has the potential to make an impression in a more competitive league.
Moreover, Kim is still relatively young and has his best years ahead of him, meaning he’s definitely worth a punt for Chelsea. The South Korean has plenty of time to make significant improvements to his game to suit the demands of playing in England.
For the player, it will definitely be a huge step up from the Chinese Super League but with the right guidance, he can blossom into a quality defender in the league for years to come.
Kim Min-Jae may not be one of those superstar signings but he can be a useful one for Chelsea and shore up their backline in the short and long term. They will need to step up their efforts in case they want to move ahead of Spurs who also want to sign him.
