Why Chelsea would be the ideal destination for this £35m-rated beast attacker

Chelsea would be an ideal destination for Moussa Marega

West Ham United have joined Chelsea and Tottenham in the race to sign FC Porto striker Moussa Marega. If he joins any of the three clubs, the player’s eventual destination will be London. However, the question is at which club would Marega, who has a release clause of £35m with Porto, fit in perfectly.

While the Hammers need a striker, who can score goals and be a threat up front, Chelsea are also on the lookout for someone similar. Spurs’ need of a striker is not that great as they already have Harry Kane to score goals on a regular basis for them. So, even if they sign a striker, he will be behind Kane in the pecking order at White Hart Lane. And Marega is unlikely to join a new club to play second fiddle.

Why Marega to Chelsea

Chelsea are keen to sign a striker to replace  Alvaro Morata, who could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer. Morata joined the Blues from Real Madrid last summer but failed to make his mark in the Premier League. Chelsea have been linked with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski but the Polish striker may be hesitant about joining a club who will be playing in the Europa League next season.

Marega was in sublime form for Porto last season, scoring 22 goals in 29 league appearances. Position-wise, the Mali international can play as a sole striker and can also link up with another forward if the manager decides to play two up front.

He is physically very strong and loves to feed on crosses inside the box. The 27-year-old also possess the propensity to hold the ball up in order to bring his teammates into the play. He provided 15 key passes last season, which shows that he can also function as a play-maker if entailed.

Verdict

West Ham also need someone of Marega’s calibre in their squad. However, playing for Chelsea would be a more attractive proposition for the striker as the Blues would want to mount a serious title challenge next season.  In addition, Chelsea have a better squad than West Ham, and playing alongside quality players could help Marega to develop his game further.
