Why Dael Fry would be a brilliant signing for Burnley
According to LancsLive, Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry has been linked with a move to Burnley this month, with the Clarets ready to bid £10m for the player.
Dael Fry, 22, has impressed for his boyhood club since coming through the youth ranks and making his debut in 2015. His short loan spell at Rotherham helped him in his development and he has also captained the North East side on several occasions this season.
Fry has featured in 23 games for the club this season and his performances have caught the eye of top English teams like Manchester City, Tottenham and Wolves, as per TamTalk (h/t Birmingham Mail).
Meanwhile, Burnley have not been at their best this season and they currently find themselves at 14th place in the league standings. With 4 losses in their last 5 league games, the Clarets look to be slipping to the relegation zone.
One of the chief reasons for their poor run of form is their defensive unit, which has conceded 38 goals in 23 league games. The duo of captain Ben Mee and James Tarkowski hasn’t performed according to the standards.
While Kevin Long has featured in just one game, former Middlesbrough man Ben Gibson is yet to make an appearance in the ongoing campaign.
Burnley need defensive reinforcements if they are to bring in a shift in their performance. Having said this, a young and talented defender like Dael Fry could be a perfect solution to their defensive crisis.
Fry has quickly established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Championship and has helped the team with 8 cleans sheets so far. He has won the 2014 U 17 Euro Championship and the 2017 U20 World Championship with England’s youth squads and his performances have been highly impressive and noticed.
According to Whoscored, the 22-year-old has registered an average of 1 tackle, 0.8 interceptions and 5.1 clearances per game in the Championship. His numbers are proof that he could grow into a tough player with some experience in the Premier League, and Burnley would be the right place for him to develop, under the tutelage of Sean Dyche.
Verdict
There are no doubts about his potential and a move could help both Burnley and the player himself. Therefore, the Clarets have to make a swift move for the youngster, who can help them as a backup for now.
