Why Dan Glazer to Rangers would bolster their midfield
As per Herald and Times Sport (h/t The Glasgow Times), Rangers have kept tabs on Maccabi Tel Aviv star Dan Glazer in a bid to sign him this summer. The report suggests that the Gers could face competition to secure his services as several English Championship clubs are also interested in signing the Israel international midfielder.
Profile
Born in Israel, Glazer come through the ranks of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s youth system and spent the majority of his career so far on different loan spells with Beitar Tel Aviv, Bnei Yehuda and Maccabi Netanya before returning to his parent club two summers back.
Since then, he has established himself as a key member of the squad, helping his side lift two league titles and two Israeli Super Cup titles. He enjoyed a brilliant 2019/20 campaign and was named Israel’s Footballer of the Year in 2020.
Since making his debut in 2018, the 23-year-old has been capped seven times by Israel and is one of the best midfielders in the nation.
Why Rangers need Glazer
Steven Gerrard’s men have got off to a flying start in the new campaign and are currently three points ahead of the second-placed Hibernian in the Premiership standings. However, there are several key areas the manager needs to focus on strengthening this summer.
One key area where they need to strengthen is the midfield. At the moment, Glen Kamara is the only defensive midfield option available at the manager’s disposal. Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo are the only two regular starters in the attacking midfield roles. Scott Arfield and Steven Davis are already above 30 and reaching the twilight of their careers.
Thus, it is necessary for the Gers to bring in young midfielders this summer and bolster their options in the middle of the park. In that regard, signing Glazer would be a smart signing for the club.
His inclusion would bring in competition to Kamara for the defensive midfield spot. And his ability to play in an advanced role would also help the Gers use him as a long-term replacement for either Arfield or Davis.

Verdict
With limited options and two of their midfielders ageing, it is clear that Rangers are in dire need of midfielders. Thus, signing the 23-year-old would be a wise decision by the club.
