Why Daniel Cormier’s UFC retirement could open the doors for a WWE career

Daniel Cormier seems close to his UFC retirement but that doesn’t mean he is done

It was an end of an era as Daniel Cormier fought his final UFC fight as he closed in on his retirement.

DC, as he is called, had claimed this was to be his final fight at UFC 252. He faced off against long-time rival Stipe Miocic and had the chance to reclaim the Heavyweight title.

However, things weren’t meant to be. DC injured his eye during the clash and it was confirmed that he had torn a cornea.

While that does put a spanner in the works for his future, it doesn’t mean that Cormier cannot come back and perform.

The UFC or other MMA promotions might be out of the calling but he has done a stellar job as a commentator.

DC also has a history of wrestling in college and the Olympics, and he could follow one man into another kind of wrestling.

DC for WWE?

Cormier has spoken in the past about being offered a role on WWE, although this was more to do with hosting a show.

Cormier has done a great job as a commentator but the performer in him might be interested in taking up another role.

WWE could use someone like Cormier in their ranks. They had Kurt Angle who was an Olympic wrestler while Ken Shamrock did his bit for MMA before coming into wrestling.

Cormier would be the best of both worlds. He can talk on the microphone too, so he can cut promos, while he is more than a handy wrestler and could learn more WWE moves as long as he is given time.

DC and his son are fans of WWE and they have kept a close eye on how things went down at WrestleMania.

WWE would also benefit with DC coming over. They don’t have a new big name for the fans to harp over, and the former double-UFC champion could fill up some star power missing for the company.

For now, DC could still continue his commentary career with the UFC. However, when he returns for this job is up in the air.

The 41-year-old will be out for a while due to the eye injury, and hopefully, he does make a quick return.

Age is no factor when it comes to WWE, and DC can still perform at the highest levels. He doesn’t need to make a decision now, but WWE and DC can be a great pairing, if the right spin is given to it.
