According to The Sun, Celtic have a long-term interest in Motherwell FC’s youngster David Turnbull, who just penned a new deal at Fir Park last January.
Turnbull, 20, came through the ranks of Motherwell’s youth system and broke into the club’s first team even before getting promoted to the senior setup this term. He was a regular member of the squad last term but unfortunately, a knee injury kept him out of action for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign.
The Scottish youngster was impressive last season and has returned to action after a long lay-off before the season got suspended. He is one of the most exciting young talents in the country and thus, Celtic should make a move for him in the summer.
Neil Lennon-led Celtic are currently atop the league standings and look set to lift their 9th Premiership title in as many years. They have been dominant over the past few seasons and have continued it this term as well, leading their rivals by 13 points.
The Hoops have maintained a high-level performance and have been brilliant in every department. The attacking unit, led by Odsonne Edouard, has scored a whopping 89 goals so far. And the defensive unit has conceded just 19, which is the joint-best in the Premiership.
Celtic have a plethora of midfield talents in Olivier Ntcham, Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor, Scott Brown and James Forrest as the forward-thinking midfielders. They have been at their best so far and have been reliable.
However, the manager needs to add some new faces to the squad since Brown is already 34 and at the twilight of his career. Jonny Hayes’ contract with the club expires in the summer and youngster Kundai Benyu hasn’t featured regularly this term.
Thus, the Hoops should bring in reinforcements for the future and Motherwell’s Turnbull would be a good choice.
Turnbull is one of the upcoming talents in the country and was instrumental in helping the club finish 8th in the league table last season. He racked up 9 goals and 5 assists and ended as the club’s highest scorer and assist provider, which is no mean feat for a 20-year-old.
The Scottish U20 international would be a valuable addition for the Hoops if he is able to continue with the same form after his injury lay-off. He has shown his ability and could be a player for them in the long run.
At 20, Turnbull has a huge future and with Celtic, he could turn into one of the best in the business under the guidance of Lennon. He would undoubtedly add depth to the squad and thus, Celtic should make a move for the youngster.
