Why Dennis Gyamfi would be a future investment for Arsenal
As per Football Insider (h/t Football.london), Arsenal are tracking the progress of Leicester City starlet Dennis Gyamfi ahead of the summer window.
Gyamfi, 18, was promoted to Leicester U18 side in the summer of 2018 and has been one of the best players in the squad. He has also represented the Netherlands in the underage levels and is also eligible to represent Ghana in the future.
The teenager’s scholarship contract with the Foxes is set to expire in the summer and he would become a free agent, as per the report. Thus, Arsenal should make a move for Gyamfi with a view for the future.
The Gunners, meanwhile, have endured a disappointing campaign so far. Their lacklustre performance earlier in the campaign saw Unai Emery lose his job as Arsenal were hovering in the bottom half of the table.
The arrival of Mikel Arteta brought some positivity within the squad and they have gone unbeaten in the league since New Year. However, they crashed out of the Europa League despite having an advantage in the first leg, whilst also finding themselves in 9th position in the Premier League standings.
Except for club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, none of them has come to the fore. One of the chief reasons for their lacklustre performance is the lack of stability in their defence. They have already conceded 36 goals so far, which is poor according to their standards. Thus, it is clear that Arteta should make changes to his backline before the start of the new campaign.
Gyamfi – A future option for Arsenal
Apart from a central defender, the manager should also focus on strengthening the wing-back positions. Hector Bellerin and Cedric Soares are the only natural right-backs available at the manager’s disposal. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, a midfielder by trade, has filled in that position in the absence of Bellerin due to several injuries.
However, Soares is also on loan from Southampton. Once he leaves after the end of his loan spell, the Gunners would be left with only the Spaniard in that position. Bellerin has also struggled with injuries throughout the last two years.
In that regard, signing Gyamfi from Leicester City would help Arsenal secure the right-back position for the future. The teenager has featured in 10 games for the Foxes U18 side this term, racking up 1 assist, and has been in brilliant form. He has a lot of room for development and under the guidance of Arteta, he could develop himself.

Verdict
Though he might not be able to walk straight into Arteta’s squad, Gyamfi could progress from the Gunners’ youth sides. And investing in a youngster could also help the club reap awards in the future. Thus, they should be able to lure the teenager to Emirates this summer.
