Back in December, Daily Mail suggested that Burnley were interested in signing Derby County star Jayden Bogle in the winter transfer market. However, no deal materialized and the youngster stayed put at the Pride Park Stadium.
Bogle, 19, was released by Reading FC at the age of 14 and joined Swindon Town, where he played for just 10 months. In January 2016, he joined Derby’s youth system and excelled with the Rams’ U18 and U23 sides. He came to prominence during Frank Lampard’s tenure as the manager there and made his senior debut in August 2018.
Since then, he has been a regular member of the squad and also helped his side reach the playoffs last season. A talented youngster, Bogle has already shown immense potential and is capable of making it big at a high level. He has received rave reviews for his performances for Derby so far and is seen as one of the brightest young talents in the Championship. Thus, Burnley should manage to snap him up this summer.
Sean Dyche has managed to get the best out of his players and has made them a successful mid-table club in the last few years. Despite enduring a torrid start to the campaign, the Clarets have been one of the best teams in the second half of the league.
However, the manager should focus on taking them to the top half of the table next season. And for that to happen, they need to bring in reinforcements with a view for the future and add depth to the squad.
At the moment, there are two right-backs available at Dyche’s disposal. Matthew Lowton and Phil Bardsley are the two defenders available on the right side of the backline but both of them are beyond 30 and reaching the twilight of their careers.
Moreover, neither of them has claimed the spot for themselves under Dyche. Thus, Burnley should bring in a right-back who is capable of providing competition to the old guards. And reigniting their interest in Bogle would be a wise decision by the club.
The 19-year-old has been consistent in the last couple of years and has shown his qualities. Last season, he managed to score 2 goals and 9 assists and continued with the fine form this season too. He has scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists in 37 league games this season and seems to have a bright future if he is able to replicate the same form.
He is capable of taking over from Lowton and Bardsley, and could be a crucial player for the Clarets in the future if he develops well. Under the guidance of Dyche and with experience, Bogle can grow into a Premier League material as he has already proven himself in the second tier.
With Lowton and Bardsley having just one year left on their contracts with the club, it is clear that Burnley are in dire need of right-backs. And Bogle can be seen as one for the future. Thus, they should reignite their interest in the 19-year-old and attempt to lure him to Turf Moor.
