Let us check out Blink 182 music band and its original member. Also, this article will explore the band’s past and present.
Blink 182 and its members
Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Scott Raynor founded Blink-182 in Poway, California, in 1992. Punk rock, skate punk, and pop punk were major influences on the band’s early sound. They gained a following in the punk rock scene after releasing their debut album, “Cheshire Cat,” in 1995.
Since the band’s hiatus in 2005, Mark Hoppus, its bassist and co-lead singer, has been actively involved in a number of endeavours. Along with working on many solo projects, he co-founded the band +44 with Travis Barker of Blink-182. He stated that he had cancer in 2021 and had been receiving chemotherapy.
The group’s drummer, Travis Barker, is now a highly sought-after partner in the music business. He has collaborated with a variety of musicians, including Britney Spears and Pink as well as hip-hop legends Lil Wayne and Machine Gun Kelly. Additionally, he started the group Transplants and has produced solo music.
Former co-lead vocalist and guitarist Tom DeLonge departed Blink-182 in 2015 to focus on other endeavours, such as his work as a UFO researcher and businessman. He established the business To the Stars Academy of Arts & Science, which is dedicated to the study of technology and extraterrestrial life.
The band’s original drummer, Scott Raynor, quit Blink-182 in 1998 and has mainly avoided the spotlight ever since. There haven’t been many updates on his current activities as he has battled addiction and alcoholism.
Why did Blink 182 breakup?
In 1998, Blink-182’s drummer Scott Raynor was fired from the band due to his excessive drinking, which led to creative differences and personal problems. Travis Barker, who was touring with the band at the time, soon filled the void and helped the band achieve massive success with their unique blend of punk, pop, and rock music.
However, in 2005, the band’s chemistry began to deteriorate, which led to an indefinite hiatus due to personal priorities and creative differences. Tom DeLonge, who was struggling with the stress of touring and recording, wanted to spend more time with his family, while Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker were more focused on continuing to tour and produce music.
Tom’s departure from Blink-182 marked the end of an era for the band, leaving fans disappointed and uncertain about the future of the group. However, in 2008, the band reunited after Travis Barker survived a tragic plane crash. The reunion tour and album were a huge success, but their creative differences resurfaced, leading to Tom’s departure from the band again in 2015.
Mark and Travis decided to continue with the Blink-182 name and enlisted Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba to replace Tom. Matt remained with the band until 2021, and Blink-182 continues to create music and tour with their new lineup.
Blink-182 Reunion
Blink-182 fans were overjoyed when Tom DeLonge changed his Instagram bio to include the band in 2022, sparking rumors of a reunion. On October 11, 2022, the band confirmed the rumors and announced Tom’s return, as well as a global tour scheduled for 2023. Their fans were thrilled when Blink-182 released a new song, “Edging,” the very next day.
The excitement only grew when Coachella announced on April 13, 2023, that Blink-182 would perform live the following day, marking Tom’s first live show with the group since 2014. Thousands of fans came to the Coachella fairgrounds for the long-awaited reunion performance, while many more watched via live stream from all around the world. The show was absolutely fantastic!
Currently, Blink-182 is gearing up for their upcoming tour, set to kick off in May 2023. The reunion is a monumental moment in the band’s history, and the immense support from their loyal fans proves just how much their music has touched and influenced so many people over the years.
