Priyanka Chopra, a prominent name in Indian cinema, has successfully crossed over to Hollywood, impressing fans and critics alike with her performances in both industries. While many had assumed that Chopra’s move to Hollywood was a natural progression after ruling Bollywood, in a recent podcast interview, the actress revealed that she had shifted her base and career to the US due to her frustration with the politics in the Hindi film industry and her conflicts with certain individuals.

During an episode of the “Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard” podcast, Priyanka Chopra Jonas shared that she transitioned to Hollywood because she was no longer being cast in Bollywood roles after years of working in the industry. Chopra Jonas explained that the transition was partly due to the politics of the Bollywood industry and the limited number of opportunities available to her.

She also acknowledged her lack of support within the industry, stating that she had to work hard to get roles rather than relying on connections. Chopra Jonas’ unsuccessful films led her to diversify her career by experimenting with film production and eventually music, which allowed her to travel to the US. After facing difficulty finding roles in India, she was advised to find representation in the US, which ultimately led to her success in Western entertainment with roles in TV shows and movies such as “Quantico,” “The Matrix Resurrections,” and “Baywatch.”

During this phase, Chopra’s manager, Anjula Acharia of Desi Hits, saw a video of her and contacted her. Chopra was shooting for Vishal Bharadwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf at the time. Anjula had heard Chopra’s demo and asked if she would be interested in pursuing a music career in the US. Chopra stated that the offer came at a time when she was looking for options outside Bollywood.

Chopra also explained that pursuing a music career in the US allowed her to explore another part of the world, without having to schmooze or grovel to certain clubs or cliques of people, as would be required in the Hindi film industry. She candidly stated, “So, when this music thing came, I was like ‘f*** it, I am going to America’.”

Chopra’s move to Hollywood was not limited to the music industry. She made her mark in Hollywood with her ABC series Quantico and became the first South Asian to headline an American network drama series. She continued to work on a mix of Bollywood and Hollywood projects such as Bajirao Mastani, The White Tiger, The Sky Is Pink, Baywatch, and The Matrix Resurrections, among others. She will be seen next in the film Love Again and the web series Citadel. In Bollywood, she will be seen in Jee Le Zaraa.

Chopra also found love in Hollywood, marrying singer Nick Jonas in 2018. The couple welcomed their daughter in 2022.

The official Instagram page of Armchair Expert Podcast shared some behind-the-scenes images of Dax Shepard and Chopra from the interview. The caption read, “Starting off this week with a banger — Priyanka Chopra joins us today. Super smart, spunky as hell…we loved our time with Priyanka Chopra.”

In conclusion, Priyanka Chopra’s move to Hollywood was not only a result of her pursuit of a music career, but also a response to her frustration with the politics in the Hindi film industry. Her success in Hollywood has been significant, and she has continued to work on a variety of projects. Chopra’s candidness during the podcast interview allowed for a deeper understanding of her decision to shift her career to the US, and her success in both industries has been an inspiration to many.
