Earlier on Tuesday, four-time NBA champion LeBron James questioned the WNBA’s draft eligibility policy.
LeBron James can now focus on watching more basketball this season after his Los Angeles Lakers side failed to make the NBA playoffs. The 37-year-old was recently watching the WNBA and was left rather confused by the WBNA Draft’s policy.
James didn’t hold back and took to Twitter to express his displeasure at the rules. James questioned why WNBA players can’t declare for the draft unless they play four years of college among many others.
The NBA legend took to Twitter and wrote, “I’m sitting here after watching the WNBA draft the other day and wondering WHY THE HELL do those young ladies have to stay in school for 4 years before being able to go pro??!!! I’m CONFUSED.”
Why did LeBron James question the WNBA Draft policy?
LeBron James seemed to be upset with the WNBA Draft rules as the policy is different in comparison to the NBA Draft policy. As per reports, the WNBA league requires draft entrants to be at least 22 years old during the year in which the draft takes place and has no remaining college eligibility or renounce any future college eligibility.
Unlike the men’s college basketball players that can go one-and-done or even take a different route like playing overseas for a year or joining the G League, the women’s basketball players don’t enjoy the same benefit. It now remains to be seen whether there will be any change in the rules for the next few years in the WNBA Draft policy. If there is, LeBron James is expected to be one of the biggest supporters to bring about the change.
