Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful confirmed that Mustafa Ali’s lengthy absence was not due to paternity leave and the SmackDown star actually only asked to be absent for one show for the birth of his child.

“I’ll go ahead and say this much publicly — Mustafa Ali hasn’t been on paternity leave. He asked for one show off for that.”

Reports also added that the reason for Ali’s absence was simply because nothing was planned for the former RETRIBUTION leader. It has also been stated that Ali was sent home early for the requested paternity leave, and he’s not been on the road since Survivor Series.

“I have a message that is much bigger than my dreams in pro wrestling,” Ali wrote. “Despite my best efforts, I will not be able to deliver this message while working with WWE. Therefore, I am requesting my release from WWE.”

Fightfulselect has given more light on the event, which may have led to the request. His absence is said to stem from the “New America” gimmick Ali mentioned several years ago.

The idea got accepted initially but was later scrapped as Vince McMahon changed his mind and pitched something else that was said to be something Mustafa Ali would have never done which led to a heated argument between the two and Ali’s absence from the company.

It will be interesting to see whether WWE grants his release or not, as they have already released quite a few stars in the last year or so.
