Goldberg wants to face Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble and that isn’t the worst idea WWE have had
This week’s WWE Raw had an incredible main event as Drew McIntyre took on Keith Lee. McIntyre put his WWE title on the line and Lee put on a great fight.
However, the Limitless One came up short and McIntyre could celebrate on Raw Legends Night. The evening didn’t end all that well for the Scot though.
Bill Goldberg came out after the match and engaged in a shoving contest with the champ. Goldberg also wanted a crack at McIntyre’s gold at the 2021 Royal Rumble and that didn’t actually sit well with everyone.
Many WWE fans questioned why someone like Goldberg would be handed a shot at the title. The former WWE Champion hasn’t been a regular for a while and there is also the age factor.
Goldberg is 54 and hasn’t looked all that great in the ring recently. He still is an imposing figure but has trouble lifting and carrying stars.
The Undertaker vs Goldberg debacle is still fresh in memory too. However, Goldberg vs McIntyre isn’t a bad idea, especially for the current champion.
Cementing his legacy
McIntyre’s second run in WWE has been everything he could have wished for. The first run fell a little flat but this time around he has conquered the WWE mountain and wants to stay there.
McIntyre has defeated Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton and The Big Show, to name a few, in recent months. No one has come close to dominating him, except Orton where the Viper won the title but lost it again.
Looking at the current Raw roster, there really isn’t much out there that McIntyre could take on who is bigger than him.
Sheamus is a good bet for a fight but the Irishman is possibly on the same level as McIntyre is right now. It would have been a different story if Sheamus, from his singles championship days, was fighting McIntyre.
Now, this isn’t a dig at the Irishman. A proper Sheamus vs McIntyre clash would put the house down ahead of WrestleMania or even the Rumble, but the story just isn’t there apart from the friendship angle.
Then there is Goldberg. He is still a legend in the business and one of the biggest names in the industry. Sure, he isn’t in the best of shapes but that is something the WWE has to work on. They need to put on a match which shows McIntyre and Goldberg at their best and the company is capable of doing that.
However, WWE shouldn’t drop the ball on this one. McIntyre has to actually defeat Goldberg and not lose the title.
The Scot needs a win over a big name, an icon or a legend actually, and Goldberg fits the bill. Of course, WWE could mess this up and let Goldberg win in the run up to WrestleMania but that would only harm the company and McIntyre.
WWE hasn’t confirmed McIntyre vs Goldberg yet but they probably will in a few days. They don’t have a big name to challenge McIntyre now and it will be interesting to see what happens next.
