According to Evening Standard, West Ham are lining up a move for Queens Park Rangers star and top transfer target Eberechi Eze in the summer.
Eze, 22, spent time at the academies of Arsenal, Fulham and Reading before joining Millwall’s U18 side. He joined QPR in August 2016 and after a year, was sent on loan to Wycombe Wanderers. Since his return to his parent club, he has been sensational for the Superhoops and is regarded as one of the best young talents in the country.
He has been a regular member of the English U20 and U21 squads and has been impressive this season under Mark Warburton, helping his side finish 13th in the Championship table. His impressive performances have also attracted the attention of top-flight club Crystal Palace, as per the report. The youngster, who is valued at £20m by his club could go for a lesser price due to the financial crisis.
At the moment, only two attacking midfielders are available at David Moyes’ disposal. Argentine international Manuel Lanzini hasn’t been up to the mark. He has been inconsistent in an injury-plagued campaign and has also lost his spot under Moyes.
Summer signing Pablo Fornals has also not been at his best. He has managed to rack up just 3 goals and 5 assists in the league this term. As a result of their lack of quality in the creative department, the Hammers have managed to score just 49 goals, which is less than their standards.
In that regard, signing Eze would help them secure the future of the creative department. The English youth international has been in sensational form for QPR this season. In 46 league games, he racked up 14 goals and 8 assists and has done enough, which belies his tender age.
Finishing as the club’s top scorer, the youngster has already shown immense qualities and could be a crucial player for West Ham in the future if he continues his development.
He still has a lot of room to grow and could add depth to Moyes’ squad. He has a long road ahead of him and could go on to lead the Hammers in the future if he is able to replicate the same form.
With Lanzini completely out of from and Fornals not at his best, it is clear that the East Londoners are in need of attacking midfielders to bolster their attack. And Eze could also provide them with some much-needed goals. Thus, signing the 22-year-old could help them reap rewards in the future.
