Why Everton could do well with Jesus Corona in their attack

As per A Bola via Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton have made contact with FC Porto over a move for winger Jesus Corona ahead of a possible summer transfer.

Corona, 27, has established himself as one of the best players for the Portuguese outfit over the past few years since joining them in the summer of 2015. He was also influential in the club’s title-winning 2017/18 campaign and has continued with the fine form in the past two seasons.

The winger has also been a regular member of the Mexican national team and has come under the radar of Everton for his brilliant performances, as per the report.

Meanwhile, the Toffees have endured a mixed campaign so far due to the lack of consistency and they have fallen to 13th position in the league standings. Apart from Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, none has shown up in demanding situations.

The strike duo has not received enough support from the wide areas and as a result, the Toffees have scored just 37 goals so far, which is less according to their standards. The likes of Alex Iwobi, Bernard and Theo Walcott have contributed with just 6 goals and 3 assists so far, most of them coming from the Brazilian.

With Iwobi and Walcott out of form, Carlo Ancelotti should look to strengthen the wide areas by bringing in reinforcements for next season. Thus, going for an experienced and in-form player in Jesus Corona would be a good idea by the club.

Corona has hit top form in the past three seasons and also finished as the club’s top assist-provider last term with 9 to his name, while also netting 9 goals. He has continued with the fine form this season and has already provided his teammates with 10 assists in the league.

The Mexican would definitely bring quality and could help the Toffees with goals if he is able to replicate the same form he has shown at Porto. He is capable of playing anywhere on the right side of the pitch and would be a valuable addition if he joins Ancelotti’s squad.

Verdict

Given the lack of consistency from the Toffees’ wide men, the manager would be able to do well with an in-form player and Corona would be the right person to provide Walcott with some competition. Thus, Everton must lure the Mexican to Goodison Park in the summer.
