According to Liverpool Echo, Everton forward Moise Kean has completed a loan move to Paris Saint-German and will spend the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign with the reigning French champions.
The 20-year-old’s only start this season came in Everton’s 3-0 win over Salford City in the second round of the Carabao Cup last month and Keane has now joined last season’s Champions League finalists on a temporary basis.
Moise Kean rose through the youth ranks of Juventus and burst on to the scene as an exciting teenager in the Serie A during the 2016-17 season. He scored 4 goals in 20 appearances on loan at Hellas Verona in the top-flight and followed it up with an impressive tally of 7 goals in 17 appearances for the Bianconeri across all competitions in 2018-19.
The highly-rated youngster came through the door at Everton last summer with a lot of expectation, but he went on to score just twice in 33 appearances for the Toffees last season. Kean started just 6 games in the PL for Everton last term as former manager Marco Silva was sacked and replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.
Having only played a bit-part role at Everton last season, the Italy international continued to struggle for regular minutes this term as well. He scored in the Toffees’ EFL Cup victories over Salford City and Fleetwood Town but found himself down the pecking order when it came to the Premier League.
It seemed highly unlikely that Kean would ever get a look in from Ancelotti ahead of the in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has set the stage on fire with his blistering start to the campaign. Calvert-Lewin looks set for a wonderful campaign after netting 9 goals in 6 games so far and Kean would have found his opportunities limited had he stayed put at the club.
The manager has even preferred to use Richarlison in a central role up top despite having Kean fit and ready on the bench. That pretty much sums up his position in the pecking order at Goodison Park.
Indeed, the Italy international’s lacklustre returns clearly suggest that he has struggled to adapt to life in England. That isn’t a massive surprise, considering that he only made a handful of senior appearances in his homeland before making the switch to Merseyside at a very young age.
Regardless of that, however, the 20-year-old remains an exciting prospect with untapped potential, and a loan move away from Everton should benefit the youngster. Kean is at a stage in his career where he needs to play regular first-team football week in, week out, to continue his evolution into a world-class player.
To that end, the Italian starlet now has a golden opportunity to secure some decent game time away on loan at PSG. He is unlikely to start too frequently at the French capital, with stalwarts like Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Mauro Icardi in the ranks. However, Kean will definitely get a crack of the whip as a squad player following the departure of Edinson Cavani and Choupo-Moting.
Moise Kean still has several years left to run on his contract at Everton and the Toffees shouldn’t give up on the youngster after a poor debut season. He needs proper backing from the staff and the fans will be hoping for him to come back fitter and stronger next summer after gaining some valuable experience training alongside the likes of Mbappe and Neymar.
