Why Everton should offer fresh terms to Dominic Calvert-Lewin
According to The Times, Everton are keen to offer striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin a new contract that would keep him at Goodison Park until the summer of 2025.
Calvert-Lewin, 22, came through the youth ranks of Sheffield United but struggled to find game time with the Blades’ senior team. His loan spell with Northampton FC helped him in his progress and he earned a move to Everton in the summer of 2016.
Though he initially struggled in a new club, he became a regular starter in the last three seasons and has made over 120 appearances for the Toffees. In the process, he has racked up 32 goals and 11 assists. And he is currently enjoying one of his most productive seasons in the top flight.
Everton were in shambles at the start of the campaign but the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti has brought back their hopes of qualifying for European competitions. At the moment, they are 11th in the league standings with a few more months for the season to end.
The Toffees have been in good form of late, barring the 3-2 narrow loss to Arsenal. They have lost just two of their last 13 league games and it is clear that Ancelotti has transformed the fortunes of the club. And under his guidance, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in fantastic form.
The 22-year-old has scored 13 goals so far in the league and has scored the highest number of goals than any other player in the top flight since the Italian manager arrived, one more than Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero’s tally of 7.
The English U21 international has taken his game to the next level and that was evident in the 3-2 win against Chelsea in December as he scored two of those. And against Manchester United last week, he was at his best and forced David De Gea to make an error.
Calvert-Lewin is one of the best young strikers in the country and has a lot more to offer as he has shown throughout this campaign. He has the ability to become a world-class centre-forward, given he develops his ability.
He has formed a wonderful partnership with Richarlison in Everton’s frontline and the duo has been in fine form in recent weeks. And Everton should enjoy his best days, which is yet to come.
