According to Liverpool Echo, Everton winger Yannick Bolasie is set to return to Goodison Park after Sporting Lisbon cut-short his loan spell.
Bolasie, 30, played for several English clubs including Bristol City and Crystal Palace before joining Everton in the summer of 2016. After failing to meet the expectations he was on the move again to several clubs on different loan spells and landed at Sporting Lisbon last summer.
However, he has failed to establish himself wherever he has been despite making over 350 career appearances. His form in the last two seasons has also deteriorated and thus, Everton should look to offload the winger at the earliest.
After making a good start under Carlo Ancelotti, the Toffees have failed to carry the momentum forward. They have struggled throughout the campaign with their inconsistency. They are currently 12th in the league standings after failing to win any of their last three games.
However, Everton’s attacking unit has shown some consistency with the like of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin performing at their best. In 27 games so far, the Brazilian has contributed with 10 goals and 3 assists whereas, Calvert-Lewin has racked up 13 goals and 1 assist so far.
Apart from Richarlison, the Toffees have Alex Iwobi and Bernard to cover the left side of the frontline. Though both of them have not been at their best, they are capable of doing well and the manager needs to be patient with the duo.
Thus, keeping hold of Bolasie wouldn’t be a good choice by the club.
Bolasie has featured in just 14 games before the Portuguese league got suspended. He has contributed with just 3 assists and 1 goal so far. The 30-year-old has crossed double figures for assists in just one season with Crystal Palace in 2014/15.
Keeping hold of Bolasie would make Everton just waste their resources as he would eventually end up on the bench. Given Richarlison’s good run of form and the presence of Alex Iwobi and Bernand, Bolasie would find it difficult to make it to the starting XI.
Despite having enormous experience, the Congolese winger has failed to make a solid impression in recent years. He has not contributed enough in the last few seasons and would not be of any help to Everton. Thus, the Toffees should part ways with Bolasie in the summer.
