As per Italian broadcaster SportMediaSet (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are considering a move for AC Milan youngster Daniel Maldini in the summer.
Maldini, 18, rose through the ranks of AC Milan’s youth system and has been impressive for the club’s U19 team this term. His bright displays also earned him his first-team debut back in February as he made his senior bow in the 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona.
He has emerged as one of the hottest young talents in the country and could be on the move, with Everton tracking his progress, as per the report.
Meanwhile, the Toffees have endured a mixed season so far under Carlo Ancelotti. After a poor start to the campaign, they made progress under Duncan Ferguson before the Italian tactician took charge. But as the games kept coming thick and fast, their inconsistency showed up and they have not been near their best in recent weeks.
Despite Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin doing the hard work up front, Ancelotti’s side has slipped to 12th position in the league after failing to win any of their last three games. One of the chief reasons for their inconsistency is the lack of creativity from their midfielders.
The midfielders haven’t contributed much in terms of goals and assists throughout the campaign. Andre Gomes, Tom Davies, Baningime and Gylfi Sigurdsson are the only forward-thinking midfielders available at the manager’s disposal. While Portuguese international Gomes has been out of action for quite a while, Davies and Sigurdsson have combined to score just 2 goals and provide 2 assists.
The likes of Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott and Bernard in the frontline haven’t supported their strikers as they were expected to. Thus, the manager should look to bring creative midfielders to add firepower to their attack and AC Milan’s Daniel Maldini would be a good fit at Goodison Park.
Maldini has been in fine form in the Primavera 2 and has already notched up 7 goals and 4 assists in just 11 games so far. He is one of the most talented youngsters in Italy and could be a huge boost to Everton’s attacking ranks if he is able to replicate the same form.
The Italian youth international has also made 2 appearances for the nation’s U21 side after a string of impressive displays in the past couple of years. His inclusion in Ancelotti’s squad could also bring healthy competition to the rest of the team.
With a lack of quality and inconsistency in their midfield ranks, the Toffees need to bring in creative players if they are to do well throughout the new season. Thus, making a move for Maldini would be a wise decision as he could provide them with much-needed depth and quality.
