Why Everton should sign Gareth Bale to bolster their attacking unit

According to 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are considering signing Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to improve their attacking options in the summer.

Bale, 30, came through the ranks of Southampton’s youth system and joined Tottenham in 2007. After spending 6 years with the Lilywhites, he established himself as one of the best wingers in Europe after Real Madrid signed him. He went on to win several trophies with Los Blancos, including 4 Champions League titles.

Meanwhile, Everton’s poor start to the campaign saw Marco Silva lose his job as they were hovering near the relegation zone. Interim head coach Duncan Ferguson brought a change in their fortunes before Carlo Ancelotti steadied the ship.

The Toffees made a sudden upward movement into the top half of the table under the Italian tactician but after a series of unconvincing displays, they slipped to 12th position in the league table. One of the chief reasons for their inconsistent performance is the lack of depth in their attacking unit.

The Brazil international Richarlison and English youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin are the only forwards in form. Both of them have combined to score 23 goals for the Toffees in the league, which is more than half of the goals Everton have managed.

Left-back Lucas Digne is their top assist provider with 5 to his name and other attackers like Alex Iwobi, Bernard and Theo Walcott haven’t made major contributions. Ancelotti has limited options on the wings and has struggled to find someone who can supply enough to the strikers. Therefore, the manager should prioritize strengthening the attacking unit with some established forwards.

In that case, Gareth Bale would be a no-brainer option for the club as the Welshman is known for his goalscoring and assisting abilities.

The 30-year-old has struggled with injuries in Spain and has fallen out of favour under Zinedine Zidane and Everton should make use of the opportunity to sign him. His inclusion in the squad would be of immense help and he would be an upgrade on Walcott, who has scored 1 goal and provided 2 assists in 22 games.

Verdict

Everton have lacked quality forwards, especially with former Gunners Iwobi and Walcott not at their best. Striker Oumar Niasse has also been unused for the majority of the season. They need quality up front and Bale can provide them with that if he stays free from injuries.

Therefore, Everton should make a prompt move for the Welsh international and lure him to Goodison Park in the summer.
