Why Everton signing Jack Grealish would make their attack powerful

According to Football Insider (h/t The Express), Everton have joined the race to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish at the end of the season.

Grealish, 24, has established himself as one of the most sought-after players in Europe while helping the Villans get promoted to the top-flight. He led them brilliantly last season and has continued with the fine form this term despite his side underperforming.

Meanwhile, Everton have lacked consistency throughout the campaign despite a change in management. After Marco Silva was sacked, club legend Duncan Ferguson took on the role of an interim head and under him, the Toffees began to hit form.

After Carlo Ancelotti was brought in as permanent manager, they began to dip form once again despite moving out of the lower half of the table. They are currently 12th in the league standings after failing to win any of their last three games.

While Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been the standout performers for the Merseyside club, they haven’t got enough support from the wide areas and from the midfielders. Andre Gomes, Tom Davies, Fabian Delph and Gylfi Sigurdsson are the forward-thinking midfielders available at the manager’s disposal but none of them has done enough to convince Ancelotti.

Portuguese international Gomes picked up a major injury and was forced out of action for several months when he actually began to hit form. Whereas, Davies, Delph and Sigurdsson have all just been quad players without much contribution.

The trio has combined together to rack up just 2 goals and 2 assists so far and it has been a major setback for the manager. Thus, bringing in an in-form midfielder would be a wise decision by the club and Jack Grealish perfectly fits the bill.

Grealish is one of the emerging players in England and has also attracted interested from several clubs including Manchester United. After his exploits for Villa last season, where he scored 6 and provided 6 assists, he has once been in the thick of the action for his side in the Premier League this season.

In 26 league games so far, he has chalked up 7 goals and 6 assists and his individual performances have been the talk of the town. He would be a valuable addition to the Toffees squad if he is able to replicate the same form. His potential shows he can be their creative head ahead of Sigurdsson, who has not been in good form right from the start.

Verdict

At 24, Grealish looks set to do bigger things and has a long future ahead. And given Everton’s lack of quality in midfield, the Aston Villa skipper would be the right person behind the in-form Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin. Thus, the Toffees should make a prompt attempt and lure him to Goodison Park in the summer.
