According to Daily Mail, Sevilla are interested in signing Everton full-back Djibril Sidibe, who is on loan from French outfit AS Monaco.
Sidibe, 27, came through the ranks of ES Troyes AC’s youth system and joined Lille in the summer of 2012. After four years, he was signed by Monaco, where he won the French league title in the 2016/17 season. He also represented France in their 2018 World Cup-winning campaign.
Last summer, Sidibe joined Everton on loan and has impressed in 21 league appearances this term. Despite the Toffees’ poor display at the back, he has enjoyed individual success, providing four assists in the league so far.
Sidibe has proven to be a good signing for the club. He is their second-highest assist-provider this term and has also replaced Seamus Coleman as the first-choice right-back. While the Frenchman’s loan spell is set to expire at the end of this season, the Toffees have the option to buy him for £13m. Thus, they should do so and keep hold of him.
The 27-year-old is a clear talent and that is evident from his time at his previous clubs. He has made over 100 appearances for both Lille and Monaco, and has immense experience at the highest level. Thus, it would make sense if Everton to keep hold of him beyond this summer.
The Toffees have struggled throughout the campaign, especially at the back. The defence has conceded 46 goals in 29 games so far but Sidibe has been one of the few better players in the squad who have had a decent season.
Coleman is the only other option available at right-back but the Irishman has been largely inconsistent. He has featured in just 18 league games this season and is already 31. Thus, it would be wise of the club to fend off interest for the French defender and keep him for as long as possible.
The World Cup winner, apart from his defending, is capable of doing a decent job in the team’s transition to attack. He has scored 18 times and provided 35 assists in his career so far. With 300 career appearances to his name, his experience would come in handy for the Toffees.
Despite this being his first season in English football, Sidibe has shown consistency and has proven his mettle. And with Coleman’s form letting him down, it would be good if Everton keep hold of the former Lille man. Hence, they should make a permanent move for the French international.
