Why Everton must make a move for Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey

According to 90min (h/t The Liverpool Echo), Everton are interested in signing Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey this summer.

Aaron Ramsey, 29, joined Juventus on a free transfer from Arsenal last summer. However, the Welshman has failed to make an impact at Juventus, scoring just four times and registering one assist in 24 appearances, with injuries not helping his cause.

The report (h/t The Liverpool Echo) adds that the 29-year-old is frustrated with the lack of regular game time at the Old Lady and doesn’t intend to spend another season on the bench, with the Italian giants willing to let him go this summer.

Everton’s midfield hasn’t been convincing at all and the current set of players are not up to the mark to take Carlo Ancelotti’s side forward. Ancelotti is yet to find the best midfield pair, with Tom Davies, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fabian Delph not up to the mark.

Portuguese international Andre Gomes suffered a broken ankle against Tottenham earlier this season and has returned stronger than ever. But he has lacked a reliable player beside him in the middle of the park.

Morgan Schneiderlin has been inconsistent all season, whereas Jean-Philippe Gbamin has endured a disastrous debut campaign in English football, having managed only two appearances for the Toffees due to injury problems.

To put things into perspective, there’s enough room for improvement as far as the Merseysiders’ midfield is concerned and Ancelotti should not hesitate to sign Aaron Ramsey from Juventus at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

A youth product of the Cardiff City academy, Ramsey spent two seasons with the Welsh club before he was signed by Arsenal in 2008. He managed 369 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions, scoring 64 goals in the process.

The Wales international loves to make driving runs from midfield and arrive late in the box to score goals, as evident from the goals he’s scored for Arsenal.

The 29-year-old is capable of operating anywhere in the midfield and he is someone who can bang in goals for his side.

He has been scoring at a decent rate in the past few years and could be helpful for the Toffees if he scores the much-needed extra goals. Most importantly, Ramsey has Premier League pedigree, having spent over a decade at the Emirates Stadium.

Verdict

At the age of 29, Ramsey is operating in his prime and would be a solid addition to Everton. The Wales international is richly experienced and would undoubtedly strengthen one of Ancelotti’s problematic areas of the squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
