Why Fabian Luzzi to Barcelona is a wise move by the club
According to Marca (h/t Daily Express), Barcelona are the frontrunners for the signature of Rayo Vallecano starlet Fabian Luzzi.
Luzzi, who turned 16 last month, is considered as one of the brightest upcoming talents in Spain, having impressed for the nation’s under-16 side. He has made four appearances for the Spanish youth side and has two goals to his credit, giving a clear idea of the talent that he is.
His performances for the Spanish under-16 side saw Luzzi being promoted to Rayo Vallecano’s senior squad, however, he is yet to make an appearance for them. The young forward has been training with the senior side in the 2019-20 season and was an unused substitute in Vallecano’s Copa del Rey fixtures against Barakaldo and Villarreal.
Lucci’s swift rise through the ranks at Vallecano and for the Spanish youth side has not gone unnoticed, with a host of top clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid waiting in line.
Lucci could be a good future signing for Barcelona
The report also claims that the Catalans are in the driving seat for the talented teenager’s signature, with whom they are already under advanced negotiations. However, first-team opportunities would be rare for the young striker if a move happens as he would be slotted straight into Franc Artiga’s youth setup at Camp Nou.
Barcelona, on the other, have veteran forward Luis Suarez, winter signing Martin Braithwaite, and summer signing Antonio Griezmann for the striker’s role. Suarez has been the side’s obvious first-choice striker for the past few years. However, he has missed a major share of this season owing to injuries and has turned 33 in January.
The Uruguayan still is one of the best strikers around but he is certainly nearing the end of his career, meaning young talent Lucci’s arrival is a welcoming sign for the club.
Braithwaite is a stop-gap solution whom Barcelona bought in January as a back-up for the injured Suarez. He is behind Griezmann in the pecking order at Camp Nou.
That said, Barcelona’s decision to rope in a rising talent like Lucci seems like a wise move by the club as it could benefit them in the future. They should up their interest in the Spanish teenager.

Verdict
Suarez’s growing age is a cause of concern for Barcelona, who have been dominant in the domestic arena. Hence, a move for young talent Lucci is a step in the right direction by the club. Moreover, he is just 16 and has plenty of time to develop.
