Newcastle interested in this 8-goal Serie A ace – Is it a good choice by Steve Bruce?

Why Felipe Caicedo would be a good addition to Newcastle United

As per an Ecuadorian outlet Ecuagol (h/t Chronicle Live), Newcastle United are interested in Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo.

The Magpies have endured mixed results throughout the season and have struggled to enter into the top half of the table in the last two months. With just one win in the last 10 league games, Newcastle are 14th in the league table.

However, they managed to beat West Brom in the FA Cup fifth round in midweek. While Almiron has scored a couple of goals in the last two months, other forwards in their ranks haven’t managed to score at a decent rate.

Summer signing Joelinton has scored just one goal throughout the campaign and is completely out of form. Whereas, Andy Carroll and Yoshinori Muto have been out of the team for the majority of the season and haven’t contributed much.

Former Crystal Palace man Dwight Gayle has failed to impress in the few chances he got and is yet to open his account in the league this term. With a less-productive forward line, Magpies boss Steve Bruce should look to strengthen his attacking unit before the new season commences.

In that regard, Felipe Caicedo should be prioritized as he has been in good form this season despite playing second-fiddle to Lazio’s top scorer Ciro Immobile.

The 31-year-old has scored 8 goals in the league this season in 21 league games. He could be a good addition to Newcastle if he is able to continue with the same form.

Though he has scored only 108 goals in over 400 appearances for all the teams he has played, Caicedo is enjoying one of his most productive seasons at the moment. His inclusion can also bring in a healthy competition within the team, which has scored only 24 goals, the least in the Premier League so far.

Verdict

Though Caicedo is 31, he still has some years left to play at a higher level and can be seen as a short-term addition, at least for a year or two.

Therefore, Bruce should make a move for the former Manchester city man in the summer and lure him to St. James’ Park as early as this summer
