Former Valencia sporting director Fernando Gomez has tipped Ferran Torres to succeed at Liverpool, as per Football Espana (h/t The Mirror).
Torres, 20, is a product of Valencia’s youth academy. He made a breakthrough in the 2017/18 season and since then, he has been a regular member of the squad. The youngster has been in sensational form in the last two seasons and was a part of Spain’s U17 and U19 squad which won the European championship.
The Spaniard’s impressive performances have attracted attention from several top European clubs, including Barcelona, as per the report. And with just one year left on his contract at Mestalla, Liverpool should make advances at the earliest to secure his services.
The Reds, meanwhile, have been successful throughout the campaign. They have dominated the league and the 25-point gap between them and second-placed Manchester City is proof of their excellence. Jurgen Klopp has managed to get the best out of his players in the past two campaigns.
With just one loss in the entire league season, Liverpool are atop the league table and are on course to lift their first Premier League title. The attacking unit has been brilliant, with the frontline of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino doing a fabulous job. The Reds have scored 66 goals, just two less than Pep Guardiola’s side.
At the same time, the defensive unit has also played a significant role in their success, conceding just 21 goals. They boast of the best defensive record in the league. Their midfield, led by Jordan Henderson, has also performed beyond expectations. They are well-built as a team.
Klopp should look to bring in reinforcements to their attack, especially the wide areas. Mane and Salah have been ever-present on either wing but they don’t have proper backups.
Takumi Minamino was signed last January but the Japanese international has failed to live up to the expectations. Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri has also not performed well, whilst struggling with several injuries.
In that regard, Torres would be a fantastic signing for the Reds. He has already made 88 appearances for the La Liga outfit despite his tender age. In 28 league games this term, he has scored 4 goals and provided 4 assists and is in good form. He was also instrumental in Valencia’s qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League this season.
The Spanish U21 international has enormous talent and his ability to operate from either flank would be a huge boost for Klopp’s side. And if he is able to replicate the same form, he would be a valuable addition to the squad.
Torres is just 20 and has a lot more to offer at the highest level. At the same time, Liverpool do lack options on the wings and the Spaniard would provide them with the required depth. He is also capable of providing them with the extra goals and thus, the Reds should make a move for the 20-year-old this summer.
