Connor Goldson

Rangers were only able to muster a third-place finish behind champions Celtic and second-placed Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership table last season.

The Gers will be looking to close the gap with Celtic next season, with the Hoops currently dominating proceedings in Scotland. Rangers have won the Scottish Premiership title a record 54 times, and with new manager Steven Gerrard on board, they could be looking at their 55th title triumph next term.

The former Liverpool captain has already made three signings at Ibrox, but it’s safe to say that he is not done yet by any means.

It has been claimed that he is interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Connor Goldson. The 25-year-old barely featured in the Premier League last season, making just three appearances. He could be looking for some regular game time to revive his career. Goldson is a towering centre back with good strength and agility.

Goldson joined the Seagulls from the Shrewsbury in 2015 and was a regular in their team when they were fighting gain promotion to the Premier League. His career was put on hold when he needed open-heart surgery back in February last year.

Goldson returned to make his Premier League debut in a 1-0 win over Watford last December but he struggled to nail down a regular starting spot and is deemed surplus to requirements at Brighton. Rangers have reportedly agreed on a fee in the region of £3m with Brighton for the defender, who featured eight times across all competitions last term.

Gers are hoping to announce the 25-year-old as Gerrard’s fourth summer signing, following the captures of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy.

They could surely use all the back up they can get if they want to mount a serious title charge next season. It is also understood they hope to complete the loan signing of Liverpool attacking midfielder Ovie Ejaria soon. Gerrard is keen to significantly bolster his squad ahead of their return for pre-season training on 15th June.
