Why Erling Haaland would be the perfect Sergio Aguero successor at Manchester City
According to Daily Mail, Manchester City are looking at Erling Haaland to take up Sergio Aguero’s place. The Dortmund striker will have a release clause of £65million that comes into effect next season. Hence, Pep Guardiola’s side are likely to move for him before that. Crosstown rivals Manchester United have also kept an eye on Haaland.

The 20-year-old Norwegian forward started his youth career at Bryne in 2006 and over the next decade, progressed through their youth setup. In 2015, he was promoted to the first-team and went on to make 16 appearances for them. After two and a half seasons, he signed for Molde FK. He had decent numbers for Molde in 50 games, with 20 goals and 6 assists.
Red Bull Salzburg signed him in 2019 and that was where his path to stardom started. In 2019, Haaland broke onto the scene with a Champions League hat-trick against KRC Genk. Despite playing just 27 games for the side, Haaland scored 29 goals and 7 assists.
In January this year, he joined Borussia Dortmund. He has continued on his merry goalscoring ways, with 33 goals in 32 games for them. Haaland was a regular part of the Norway youth sides and has 7 senior appearances to date, with 6 goals to his name.
Haaland can be a worthy successor to Aguero
It is probably hard to describe what Aguero is to City given his impact since signing for the club. From scoring the most important goal in the club’s history which won them their first-ever Premier League to becoming the record scorer for the club, he is an absolute legend at the Etihad.
However, as time is passing, Aguero’s age is slowly catching up to him and it is visible in the injury layoffs he has been having. He has missed 48 games in the last 4 seasons. Clearly, another experienced striker is a huge requirement at this stage.
In Erling Haaland, they would have exactly that. The Dortmund ace has taken Europe by storm since his heroics for Red Bull Salzburg last season. He has continued on his scoring spree for Dortmund.
Manchester City would be getting a long-term goalscorer in Haaland. He is young and is already showing glimpses of being a world-class attacker. At City, he will have a star-studded cast to support him.

Sergio Aguero is slowly entering the twilight years of his career and whether or not City like it, they will have to replace him eventually. The sooner the better, because his injuries are becoming more frequent and Gabriel Jesus is the only other centre-forward in the side.
