Why Habib Diallo would be a brilliant addition to Leeds United

According to French outlet Le Foot (h/t Leeds Live), FC Metz striker Habib Diallo is linked with a transfer move to Leeds United in the summer.

Diallo, 24, came through the ranks of Generation Foot’s youth system and joined the development side of Metz in 2013. He then spent one and a half seasons on loan with Stade Brest, where he scored 16 goals. Since his return to his parent club, he has been a key member of the squad.

He helped his side gain promotion to Ligue 1 at the end of last season, contributing with 26 goals in 37 games while providing 6 assists. He has continued with the same form into this season and has established himself as one of the top strikers in the French top-flight. Hence, Leeds United making a move for Diallo would be a good decision for the club.

Marcelo Bielsa has managed to lift the Whites from the slight dip in form last month. They are currently atop the Championship table, leading West Brom with one point and are 7 points above the play-offs zone.

As they prepare for life in the Premier League, the manager should bring reinforcements in the summer, which could help them survive and prosper in the top-flight.

Their attacking unit with the likes of Jack Harrison, Helder Costa and Patrick Bamford has been excellent so far, scoring 56 goals. However, Bamford is the first-choice striker and has no established backup after Arsenal recalled Eddie Nketiah in January.

Jean-Kevin Augustin, who was signed in the winter transfer window, hasn’t lived up to the expectations and could be on his way back to Germany after his loan spell ends. Tyler Roberts is the only other option available and therefore, a move for Metz forward Habib Diallo would be a wise decision by the club.

The 24-year-old has been scoring on a regular basis in the past couple of seasons. He has already netted 12 goals this term and is looking better with each game. He could be a crucial player for Leeds if he can reproduce the same form.

Diallo would certainly be a competitor for Bamford, who seems to have lost his goalscoring touch in the last few games. The Senegalese international is also capable of operating as a left-winger and could come in handy for Bielsa.

Verdict

At 24, it would be the right time for the Senegalese to take a step into the Premier League. He is already the 6th highest goal scorer in just his second Ligue 1 season and has the ability to succeed at a higher level.

Diallo has a huge future ahead and Leeds should get the best out of him by securing his services in the summer.
