Why Hamza Choudhury would be a good addition to Newcastle United

According to Sunday People (h/t Leicestershire Live), Newcastle have enquired about a loan move for Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury.

Choudhury, 22, came through the ranks of Leicester’s youth system and was sent on loan to Burton Albion before returning to his parent club in the summer of 2018. He quickly rose through the ranks at King Power Stadium and became a regular member of their U18 side before he turned 16.

He has made 40 appearances for the Foxes so far and is a good young talent in the middle of the park. At the back-end of last season, Choudhury displayed some excellent performances but has lacked game time due to the emergence of Wilfred Ndidi in Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

And Steve Bruce’s side have to face competition for the youngster, who is also on the radars of Burnley if he is allowed to leave on loan, according to Sunday People (h/t LeicestershireLive)

Meanwhile, the Magpies, after a series of poor displays in the league, currently find themselves at 12th place in the league standings after a dramatic narrow win against Chelsea. But their inconsistency has overshadowed the good results this season. Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has had to deal with several injuries in his squad and despite that, they have maintained a decent run in the league so far.

Apart from signing attacking options, the midfield area also needs changes with the current set of players being mostly injured or unable to perform at a higher standard. Recent injuries to Ki Sung-Yeung and Jack Colback have further made it worse for the Toon, who are now short of midfielders.

With games coming thick and fast in the second half of the campaign, the manager has to reinforce the squad with midfield options. In that regard, Hamza Choudhury would perfectly suit the bill in a loan deal.

The 22-year-old has featured in 13 games this season for the Midlands club and despite being young, he has shown promises of controlling the tempo of the game. He could be the perfect player for Bruce until the end of the season and help them aim for a finish in the top half of the table. Choudhury performed well as a deep-lying midfielder during his time in Burton.

Verdict

Newcastle have found it difficult to posses a threat to opponents in the majority of games this season and have always been caught on the counter. In that regard, Choudhury would be a valuable asset to the team given that he can play as a deep-lying midfielder. Therefore, if the Magpies manage to lure him on loan, they would have a young, energetic and fearless player in their ranks.
