Why Idrissa Gueye can be a fine signing for Chelsea
According to the Mirror, Chelsea have been linked to Idrissa Gueye in the immediate aftermath of Thomas Tuchel’s appointment. The club has been linked to a few PSG players that Tuchel worked with during his time in Paris. Gueye, who left for PSG last season, has fallen to the fringes this season but was a favourite under Tuchel.
Chelsea need a specialist defensive midfielder
It may seem like Chelsea are already overstocked in midfield and need no further additions. However, none of the midfielders Chelsea possess are natural defensive midfielders.
N’Golo Kante looks like one but he is more of a box-to-box midfielder. Jorginho, who has been used in the deepest of the midfield three is a regista and excels in his passing attributes. Even Kovacic is more of a number 8.
There’s a reason Chelsea were after Declan Rice throughout this season and the reason is they need a specialist defensive midfielder. They need someone to sit in front of the defence and screen them from opposition attacks. Someone who can provide those interceptions and tackles in a timely manner.
Gueye can be a handy pick for Tuchel
As The Guardian reports, Chelsea are likely to end their pursuit of Rice after the sacking of Frank Lampard. Nonetheless, the position still remains in need of a specialist and Chelsea are rightly veering towards Idrissa Gueye.
The 31-year-old Senegalese was one of the best in his position in the Premier League before departing for PSG. Idrissa Gueye was a revelation since making his move to Everton from Aston Villa in 2016. He made the starting role his own at Goodison Park and his contributions to the Toffees side have been massive over the years.

Capable of breaking up any forward play with his razor-sharp instincts, Gueye offers a certain degree of defensive stability – something that Chelsea have been lacking for a long time now.
He is also an excellent passer of the ball and although he doesn’t score too many goals, his effect on any side will be quite easy to see. The energy he brings to the middle was visible in each Premier League appearance he made and signing him would be an excellent move by Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea.
