Back to Breaking Bad, here are some reasons why Breaking Bad is still loved even today, after 9 years:
The Amazing Cast
Breaking Bad offers a very versatile and talented cast, with each actor proving their metal by doing complete justice to their characters. The best part about the show is that the main character in the show is supposed to be an anti-hero, played by Bryan Cranston.
His character is called Walter White who is a high-school chemistry teacher who finds out he has cancer. He pairs up with an ex-student called Jesse Pinkman (played by Aaron Paul) so that they could create and sell Meth, which turns out to be America’s purest. That is where Walter begins breaking bad.
Even the villains in the show are very menacing and they have the kind of persona that would instill fear in the audience too. One of the best villains in the show is Gustavo Fring (played by Giancarlo Esposito), also known as Gus Fring who is very subtle about his dealings but is sure to show his enemies what he is made of.
The Brilliant Storyline
Breaking Bad has the kind of storyline that makes it stand out from the rest. It is not only about how a chemistry teacher turns to a world of crime but it is also about the personal battles he has to fight and how intoxicated with the power he gets after he becomes a part of the drug mafia. Walter does whatever is necessary to make sure that he proves his metal so that no one stands in his way.
The irony in the show is that Walter’s brother-in-law, Hank Schrader (played by Dean Norris) is in a high position in the DEA and Walt has to make sure that he doesn’t find out that Walter is in the crime business.
Another powerful element is when Walter doesn’t allow Jesse to form any personal relationships because they would distract Jesse from the business, eventually taking a toll on his mental health.
The Dark Elements of the Show
The show did not abstain from showing how life could possibly get dark once you switch to a life of crime. Walter has to kill a lot of people to get where he is, he has to face distance from his family to the point where they disown him and eventually it is just him all to himself. The show also does not shy away from threats such as those given to Walter by Gus when he sees that Walter is taking a stand against him.
Another frightening element is the extreme to which Walter goes when he has to make sure that Jesse is only indulged in the business and does not get sidetracked, he removes people close to Jesse in the most brutal and heartless of ways, showing how Walter transitions from being the protagonist to the antagonist.
The Astonishing End to an Astounding Series
The episodes towards the end of the show which consist of Ozymandias and Felina go on to show how it is eventually just Walter and his money and how alone he is.
He finds himself back to square one and begins living a life of regret. He tries to mend his ways but eventually, he figures out he is too late to do so. In his final moments, Walter tries to redeem himself but no matter what he does, it just isn’t enough.
There are cracks in his relationship with Jesse, who initially saw Walt as a father figure but eventually begins despising him due to the traumatic experiences that Walter put him through. It is a little heartbreaking to see how Walter, in a state of desperation, got himself into a situation so addicting that he couldn’t get himself out of it.
The Interesting Take on Science
One of the fun things about watching Breaking Bad is the take they have on science and how there is so much to learn. Such as never using acid in a bathtub because, the acid would corrode the ceramic or porcelain away. There are a lot of other things to learn if you are keen to learn about science.
Wrapping Up
It is due to these elements that Breaking Bad is still one of the best shows to watch. Once you begin watching it, you would eventually find yourself binging on it, one episode after the other since there are a lot of cliffhangers that keep the audience asking for more.
