Gable Steveson has been the talk of the town from the time he has signed for WWE. Do you know that he is named after famous US freestyle wrestler Dan Gable?

Gable won the gold medal at the 125kg men’s freestyle event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He has signed a contract with WWE as well. Let us know more about the reason for him being named after Dan Gable.

Why is Gable Steveson named after Dan Gable?

United States’ Steveson created history at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and is one of the youngest Olympic wrestling Champions. Steveson’s mother named him Gable after US freestyle wrestler Dan Gable won gold in the 68 kg category at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.

It was also reported by Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Ringside News) that WWE announced Steveson as “Gable Dan Steveson”, which was his real name.

“Steveson was introduced using the name Gable Dan Steveson, his real name, but as a college wrestler and athlete, his middle name was never focused on. It would appear WWE felt that the name, referring to 1972 gold medalist Dan Gable, would be part of his billing. Chas Betts, who competed in the Olympics as a Greco-Roman wrestler, currently is on the roster as Chad Gable, with his wrestling name also from Dan Gable.”
