Why Sheffield United should once again target Adolfo Gaich in January
According to Yorkshire Live, Sheffield United held an interest in Adolfo Gaich in the last transfer window. The player’s agent claimed that the Blades were after the player until October, as were several other clubs such as Fenerbahce and Feyenoord. Even Leeds United were credited with having an interest in the player early in the window.
Profile
The 21-year-old Gaich is a product of the San Lorenzo youth setup. The Argentine striker made his first-debut in August 2018 but was in and out of the team for the rest of the campaign due to injury problems.
Gaich did get a more regular run of games in the 2019/20 campaign before the season was stopped due to the pandemic. The 21-year-old featured 27 times for the San Lorenzo first-team, bagging seven goals and one assist in the process.
In August, he made the move to CSKA Moscow and has played 14 games for them so far, scoring and assisting a goal each. Gaich is currently a part of the Argentina U-23s but played one game for the senior side last year.
Sheffield should sign Gaich in January
It seems rather absurd that a player who moved to the club in August would be looking for an exit in October. It’s also not the case that he isn’t getting game time. So quite what the agent wants to get out of his statement is anyone’s guess.
Sheffield recruited Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster for a sizable transfer fee. Plus, they already have the likes of Ollie McBurnie, David McGoldrick, Billy Sharp and Lys Mousset in the striker department.
Adding another forward to an already stocked area might seem unnecessary but given Gaich’s age, this is a long-term move that they could do with.
With the club languishing in 20th place without a win, they could really use some attacking reinforcements given the lack of goals so far.
