Why Ivan Perisic could be a smart coup for Manchester United

According to Gazzetto Dello Sport (h/t The Sun), Inter Milan are reportedly ready to offload long time Manchester United target Ivan Perisic. It is being said that manager Antonio Conte is frustrated with the player’s form and the Croatian could be heading towards the exit door after a poor start to this season.

A price tag of £13.5million is said to be placed on the player by the club chiefs and are open to January offers for him.

It was the saga of the summer as Manchester United huffed and puffed but could not bring Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. They had to revert their attention towards youngsters Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri.

While Pellistri is featuring for the U-23s, Diallo is set to arrive in January. Talented as they may be, let’s not forget that they are still very green and United need some experienced heads in their youthful side.

While Perisic may not exactly fit the profile of players Manchester United have targeted in recent windows, he is one with loads of experience at the highest level. At 31, he has won it all and can provide that bit of level-headedness that Manchester United seem to lack in their young team.

He is extremely versatile and can play in a multitude of positions such as left-wing, right-wing, and attacking midfield. This would solve United’s right-wing woes, which has been plaguing the team for a number of years now.

Ivan Perisic is an extremely good utility player who comes with bags of experience in top-level football. Manchester United need someone exactly like Perisic even if it’s on a short-term basis.

He can provide cover in multiple positions, but most importantly address the right-wing problem. At £13.5million, he would be quite a bargain that United would be getting.
