According to ESPN, Man United have identified Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman as a potential alternative to Jadon Sancho, who looks set to stay at Borussia Dortmund for the time being.
Sancho has long been touted as United’s top target but the Bundesliga club have made it known that they aren’t looking to sell the England international this summer. That has prompted United to draw up a shortlist of potential alternatives, including the likes of Douglas Costa and Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic. (h/t ESPN)
Kingsley Coman rose through the youth ranks of Prais Saint-German before making his senior professional debut for his boyhood club during the 2012-13 season. He made only a handful of first-team appearances for the French giants before completing a move to Juventus in 2014.
The 24-year-old played a bit-part role at Juventus during the 2014-15 season before signing for Bayern Munich on a two-season loan deal. Coman’s stay was made permanent in 2017 and the Frenchman has gradually established himself as one of the key cogs in Bayern’s attack over the past couple of campaigns.
Coman has accumulated an impressive tally of 33 goals and 35 assists in 161 appearances for the Bavarian giants across all competitions, winning 5 Bundesliga titles, 4 domestic cups and the Champions League last season.
Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood established themselves as United’s first-choice wide attacking options in the previous campaign, with Anthony Martial operating as the centre-forward. The Red Devils’ prolific front three shared an astonishing 44 goals between them in the league last term as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side romped home to a 3rd-place finish.
Daniel James proved his worth as a useful player capable of deputizing for the likes of Greenwood and Rashford on either side of the pitch. However, United lacked any significant goal contribution from other squad players like Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, and Andreas Pereira.
Plus, with youngsters like Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong departing the club, United certainly need more competition for places on the flanks to reduce the burden on Rashford and Greenwood.
Kingsley Coman fits the bill as a devastating wide player with proven pedigree in the Bundesliga and Champions League and his arrival would definitely benefit the Red Devils.
Kingsley Coman is widely regarded as one of the best young wide attackers in the German Bundesliga. The 24-year-old still has his best years ahead of him and Man United completing a move for him would serve them well for several years moving forward.
