As per Four Four Two (The Yorkshire Post), Anderlecht striker Kemar Roofe has admitted he could play again for Leeds United if he gets the opportunity.
Roofe, 27, is a product of West Brom’s youth academy. He spent most of his career on loan spells with several lower league clubs before joining Leeds in the summer of 2016. He immediately became a regular member of the squad at Elland Road.
Though he initially struggled in his first season with the Whites, the Jamaican has gone on to score a decent number of goals in the last two years. However, he couldn’t help them gain promotion and was traded to Belgian side Anderlecht last summer.
Leeds, meanwhile, have been brilliant throughout the campaign. Marcelo Bielsa has managed to put up a strong team. Despite a slight blip in their form, the Whites have helped their way to the top of the league. They are seven points clear of the play-off spots and are hoping for automatic qualification to the top-flight amidst the season getting suspended.
The attacking unit led by Patrick Bamford has scored 56 goals so far. The defensive unit has conceded just 30 goals, boasting of the best defensive record in the Championship. The midfield has also done a decent job.
However, if they are promoted to the Premier League, Bielsa has to bring in reinforcements to the squad. Most of the first-team players are on loan and the manager should see that there is depth in every area on the pitch if they are to sustain in the top-flight.
Patrick Bamford has been the lone striker for the whites since Eddie Nketiah returned to Arsenal in January. However, they did sign Jean-Kevin Augustin on loan to fill the void but the Frenchman has failed to live up to the expectations.
Bamford is their top scorer with 13 goals so far and young Tyler Roberts has featured in just 14 games. He cannot be depended upon for a whole campaign. In that regard, Leeds should look to re-sign Roofe, who is willing to return to the club, as per the report.
Roofe has crossed double-figures in his last three league campaigns, scoring 14 goals last season. He has continued with the fine form with Anderlecht this season, where he scored 6 goals before picking up a calf injury.
The Jamaican’s ability to score enough goals would be a massive boost for Bielsa’s squad, given they have just one established striker. Roofe’s inclusion would also bring healthy competition to the squad. If he is able to continue with the fine form, he could form a strong partnership with Bamford up front.
Leeds are in dire need of strikers at the moment and the manager has to bring in reinforcements to their attacking unit if they are to do better in the Premier League. Roofe could provide them with the required goals. Thus, the Whites should look to sign the Jamaican this summer.
