Why Leeds United should complete a deal for Crysencio Summerville

As per Voetbal International (h/t Birmingham Live), Leeds United are hoping to strike a deal for Feyenoord youngster Crysencio Summerville ahead of the new campaign. The report suggests that the youngster has refused to sign a new contract with the Dutch outfit and could be on the move this summer.

He is valued at €1.5m by his club but the Whites could face competition to secure his services as Wolves, Rangers, Anderlecht and RB Salzburg are also interested in signing him, as per the report.

Profile

Born in the Netherlands, Summerville flourished through the ranks of Feyenoord’s youth system and was sent on a loan spell to FC Dordrecht in January 2019. He was against sent on loan to ADO Den Haag last season to improve with regular game time.

He impressed on his loan spell at Cars Jeans Stadium, racking up 2 goals and 3 assists in 22 league games and has shown immense potential despite his tender age. He has represented the Netherlands at various age-group levels and went on to help the U17 side lift the European Championship in 2018.

However, with his contract coming to an end next summer, a move abroad seems to be on the cards, as per the report.

Summerville can be a valuable asset in the future

Leeds have been busy in the transfer window s they prepare for life in the Premier League and have already made nine signings so far. Joe Gelhardt, Rodrigo, and Helder Costa are the new arrivals in attack. However, they need to strengthen the squad with a view of the future.

Costa, Ivan Poveda and Jack Harrison are the only players available in the wide areas and it is clear that they need to bring in wingers this summer. Harrison is on loan from Manchester City for another year but he could leave next summer once his contract comes to an end. Thus, making a move for Summerville seems to be sensible.

The youngster has already shown potential and should only get better with experience. He can be a valuable asset in the Leeds’ attack if he is able to continue with the fine form and develop under the guidance of someone like Marcelo Bielsa.

His inclusion would add depth to the attacking unit, whilst also bringing in healthy competition to the squad next season. Though he may not be able to walk straight in the starting XI, he can prove to be a crucial player from the bench.

Verdict

With limited options in the wide areas, it is necessary for the Whites to bring in wingers. And investing in the youth would help them reap rewards in the future. Thus, they should manage to lure the Dutch teenager to Elland Road this summer and keep him for the future.
