Why Leeds United should make a move for Liverpool’s Yasser Larouci

According to Football Insider (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post), Leeds United have received a boost in their efforts to sign Yasser Larouci. The Liverpool youngster, whose contract is up at the end of the season, has not been able to reach an agreement over a new deal.

The Reds are open to the idea of selling him this month so as to not lose him for free at the end of the season. Leeds were after Larouci last summer but an agreement could not be reached and the transfer fell. (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post)

Leeds need another specialist left-back

Speaking of strengthening the squad, one key area the manager should strengthen is the full-back area. At the moment, there are three left-backs available at the manager’s disposal – Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Leif Davis.

However, Dallas has been preferred in that position despite being a natural right-back while Alioski has also chipped in at that position occasionally. Davis is the only one left, who could be used in the future. Thus, signing a left-back should be on their radar during this month.

Larouci can be a long-term investment

Larouci, 19, joined Liverpool’s U18 side in 2017 from French outfit Le Havre’s academy, where he was highly-rated. Since then, he has been a regular member of the Reds’ U18 and U23 sides. The youngster played a key role in the club’s FA Youth Cup win over Manchester City last season and is one of the best players’ in the youth teams.

To that end, Larouci would be a suitable option for Leeds. The youngster has already featured for Liverpool’s senior team and has gone from strength to strength in the last couple of years.

He could be used as an understudy to Dallas at the moment. He has shown immense potential with the youth side and still has a lot of room for development.

With Leeds’ left-backs pretty much being makeshift in nature, it is clear that they are in dire need of left-backs. Investing in youth could help them reap rewards in the future. Thus, signing Larouci would help them stock up their backline in the left-back position.
