Why Leeds United should plot a move for Rhian Brewster

As per Wales Online (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post), Leeds United have been tipped to sign Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster, who currently plies his trade with Swansea City on loan.

Brewster, 19, came through the ranks of Chelsea and Liverpool’s youth system. He was part of the Reds team that won the Champions League last season and the UEFA Super Cup. He was also instrumental in the England U17 team’s World Cup-winning campaign three years back and ended as the tournament’s top scorer.

The youngster struggled for game time at Anfield due to the presence of the big-name forwards and was sent to Swansea City on loan last January. Since then, he has been a regular member of the starting XI and has scored 4 goals in 11 games.

Meanwhile, Leeds United have been excellent in their race for automatic qualification to the Premier League. They are currently atop the Championship table, leading West Brom with a point. Though they had a slight dip in form in the last month, Marcelo Bielsa has managed to take them to the top.

The Whites have been clinical in every department with the attacking unit performing at their best. Forward Patrick Bamford has been crucial for the side, scoring 13 goals and winger Pablo Hernandez has notched up 6 goals. However, Bamford has been doing the work on his own upfront.

Eddie Nketiah, who was on loan from Arsenal departed in January and was replaced by Jean-Kevin Augustin but the Frenchman hasn’t lived up to the expectations. And youngster Tyler Roberts has featured in just 14 league games so far.

Apart from them, Leeds have no other striking options in their ranks. Hence, Bielsa should look to reinforce the squad with a centre-forward. And Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster would be a viable option for the Whites.

The 19-year-old has been in fine form in the past few years with the youth and reserve teams but has struggled for game time at a higher level. And going to Leeds would be the right move for Brewster.

He has already proved his goalscoring prowess in the U17 World Cup and has a long way to go. Alongside Bamford, he would be excellent for the Whites if they get promoted to the Premier League as they will need adequate options.

The English youth international can be a vital cog in the Whites side if he is able to replicate the same form which he has shown for the Swans in the last few months.

Verdict

Leeds would be in dire need of strikers if Jean-Kevin Augustin leaves in the summer after his loan spell ends with the club. And Brewster needs enough chances at a higher level.

Therefore, Leeds signing the London-born talent would be good for both the club and the player himself.
