Why Leicester City should let go of Josh Knight
According to Football Insider (h/t Leicestershire Live), Wycombe Wanderers are in talks with Leicester City over the transfer of Josh Knight. Gareth Ainsworth is keen on getting Knight on a permanent basis. His 3-month loan deal will expire soon and Leicester could be forced to make a decision soon.
Profile
A Foxes academy product, Knight has only featured once for Leicester’s senior team and has played 57 times for their under-23 side. Of late, the 23-year-old centre-back has mostly spent time out on loan with League One side Peterborough United.
Knight left for Peterborough in the second half of last season and impressed for the lower-division side with 8 appearances that saw him get recalled on loan once again last summer.
He featured 24 times for Peterborough last term before the coronavirus stopped play. Finally, he went out on loan to Wycombe Wanderers on a short-term deal in October this season. So far, he has played 17 games for the side.
Leicester have enough depth in their ranks to let go of Knight
The Foxes recruited Wesley Fofana at the start of the season. The youngster has taken to the side like a duck to water. He is the first-choice partner for Caglar Soyuncu at Leicester. In Jonny Evans and Wes Morgan, they have decent backups.
With Rodgers having Soyuncu and Fofana at the back and also enough back-up in his side, young Knight seems surplus to the club’s requirements. Hence, it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to let him leave on a permanent basis. He has made an impression at Wycombe and it would be fair to let him continue there.

Rather than keeping him in the side without offering him any game time, it would be better if they just sanction a sale. Leicester have an established centre-back partnership that has helped the side improve a lot this season. They also have enough depth in their back-line. Hence, losing Knight would not hurt them much.
