Why Leicester City should offload Adrien Silva permanently

According to Leicestershire Live, Leicester City midfielder Adrien Silva, who is currently on loan with Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, has hinted over a possible return to Sporting Lisbon in the future.

Silva, 31, enjoyed a successful time at the Portuguese outfit, making 239 appearance and winning several trophies before moving to the Midlands club in August 2017. However, after failing to make it to the Foxes’ starting XI regularly, he was sent on loan to Monaco.

This season, he has been a regular member of the squad but has failed to prove his worth, with just 2 assists so far. His career has been on the decline for the past few years and thus, Leicester should look to offload him this summer.

The Foxes, meanwhile, have enjoyed a brilliant campaign under the management of Brendan Rodgers. They have been brilliant in every department, with star striker Jamie Vardy leading the line. The Englishman has netted 19 goals and is the league’s top scorer this term.

At the same time, defensive duo Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu have held their lines tightly at the back. The Foxes have conceded just 28 goals so far and boast of the third-best defensive record in the top-flight.

The Midfield dynamics

The manager has also changed the dynamics in the middle of the park, with the likes of Youri Tielemans, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes featuring regularly. The trio has contributed with 16 goals and 15 assists this season. Apart from them, Dennis Praet has also done a decent job, racking up 1 goal and 2 assists in 21 league games.

Matty James and Marc Albrighton are also available at the manager’s disposal. Thus, with a plethora of attack-minded midfield talents, Leicester should look to sell the Portugal international.

In the past few years, Silva’s contribution has decreased heavily. Keeping him in the squad would only help in wasting their resources. Though he has featured in 22 Ligue 1 games this term, he has not been a regular starter, making most of the appearances while coming on from the bench.

Verdict

At 31, Silva is reaching the back end of his career and this would not be helpful for Leicester in the league. They already have plenty of midfielders in their squad and therefore, they should look to part ways with former Lisbon man and free up some space.
